CERTIFIED SECURITY SPECIALIST, CSS
ESI's premier program is the most advanced curriculum that ESI offers. The Security Specialist Program combines the core programs of High Risk, Executive Protection and Protective Intelligence & Investigation. It affords the student the flexibility to design a course of instruction that is organized specifically to the student's needs. Any course taken in another program is applicable to the CSS Credential that is full academic and financial credit is awarded for completion of courses in a parallel program.
A security specialist is a "generalist" in the sense that he or she has crafted a series of job-related skills which will qualify him or her to undertake a broad variety of security assignments. In today's world, many of the traditional roles of private security which in the past were quite separate have now begun to meld together. Thus, a protection specialist or investigator may find that he or she is required to perform a number of heretofore unrelated tasks for a client, such as providing executive security, conducting an investigation, collecting competitor intelligence, and/or performing intricate electronic countermeasures.
The Security Specialist Certificate Program consists of 900 hours or 18 Distance Education courses or 18 Lessons for Certificate of Completion and 108 Lessons for Identification Credential. Courses are self-selected from the more than 32 courses offered in ESI's curriculum and one Resident Training component of either the High Risk Protection, Advanced Executive Protection 15-day programs or the Protective Intelligence & Investigation 15-day program. Both the academic Distance Ed courses and theResident Training choice is left to the student.
Considered as a single curriculum, the Security Specialist Program consists of an intensive study of more than a 1000 hours. Enrollment in the Security Specialist Program is begun with the Distance Education prior to arrival for Resident Training.
Academic components of DISTANCE EDUCATION include eighteen courses, five of which are required. These required Distance Education courses are: Principles of Protection; Principles of Investigation; Intelligence Collection & Analysis; Stalking and Dangerous Human Behavior; and Interviews and Interrogation. In addition, the student must select and complete thirteen elective Distance Education courses from the 32 courses offered in Executive Protection, Protective Intelligence and Investigation, depending upon the student's primary interest. The thirteen elective courses should be selected to complement that focus.
