PROTECTIVE DRIVING OPERATIONS

ESI’s TRAINING FACILITY IN COLORADO
$950 (Limited Discount Price)

PROTECTIVE DRIVING OPERATIONS

Three days of training that combines elements Tony Scott’s Vehicle Dynamics Institutes highly acclaimed programs. The course provides participants with a unique opportunity to build upon their existing training and further develop the knowledge, skill and ability required to perform one of the most challenging aspects of protection, providing safe and secure transportation in a high risk environment.
This is accomplished through a series of informative discussions and hands on practical exercises, students will develop an understanding of what the driver/vehicle combination can and, most importantly, cannot do when confronted with a potentially life threatening situation while behind the wheel. An emphasis is placed on how the driver can most effectively manage the limited time and distance available to them as a safety or security incident unfolds.

Classroom discussion will include the role vehicles play in mission strategy and tactics. Students will learn how armored vehicles affects the decision making process, and how to select the proper vehicle for the mission - or how to maximize the effectiveness of the vehicle given.

All hands on exercises are scenario based and designed to train and measure driver ability. Hence students will be objectively tested, and are required to attain a standard. All test and standards are based on the laws of physics as applied to vehicle attacks. The scenarios used during the testing are from case studies of vehicle ambushes.

At the conclusion of the program students will have the knowledge too combine mission objectives, with the vehicles supplied, and if necessary, have the skills needed to escape the Kill Zone.

CLASSROOM

DYNAMICS OF A VEHICLE EMERGENCY

Students will gain an understanding of how the driver – the vehicle – and the environment affect vehicle emergencies.

CASE STUDIES OF VEHICLE ATTACKS

Students will review case histories of successful vehicle attacks, and discuss lessons learned from each of the attacks.

ROADSIDE BOMBS

For roadside bomb to be successful certain environmental factors must be in place. We will discuss defensive measures that lower the risk of a roadside bomb.

KILL ZONE THEORY

Students will be introduced to the concept of vehicle dynamics that govern the motion of a vehicle. The concept of Kill Zone Math will be explained and practical applications outlined.

TACTICS AND SECURITY VEHICLES

In an emergency vehicle characteristics change tactics and the decision making process. We will look at the differences between the vehicles, and how modifications affect performance. We will cover what can and cannot be done with them.

ARMORED VEHICLES

A basic definition of security vehicles will be presented; we will discuss the role armor plays in vehicle security. We will cover the affect of various rounds on vehicle armor, and how armor affects vehicle performance.

HANDS ON EXERCISES

BACKING-UP EXERCISE

In most attack scenarios the path of escape is to the rear. Students will learn to use the vehicles maximum capability to maneuver through a series of obstacles while moving in reverse.

ROLLING AMBUSH

Students will drive into various rolling ambushes – they will be trained to maneuver their vehicles for maximum survivability.

ATTACKS AGAINST THE CONVOY

In an attack on a convoy all the occupants of the vehicles, not only the driver, must have an assigned task. Given various attack scenarios students will be trained to remove themselves from the kill zone.

VEHICLE FAMILIARIZATION

Understanding the capability of the vehicle is paramount in the event of an ambush. Students will learn to field analyze vehicles, and determine their capabilities.

RUN FLAT EXERCISE

Students will drive through various exercises with the tires at zero tire pressure. The objective is to familiarize the student with run flat capabilities.

VEHICLE COMBAT

In the event of a roadblock students will learn to safely and quickly remove a vehicle or vehicles blocking its path of escape, but more importantly students will learn when to use this tactic. Students will also learn how to push a stalled vehicle from its path along.

DRIVE DOWN DRILLS

In the event that the driver is incapacitated, students will learn to drive the vehicle from the passenger seat.
