ESI-Mexico's Anti-Kidnapping/Anti-Secuestro Protection & Intelligence Program is a custom designed curriculum taught in Spanish throughout Mexico and Latin America. Unlike the Programs offered in the U.S., the Spanish language training is not Open Enrollment to individuals. ESI's Program is offered exclusively to corporate and governmental agencies by contractual agreement after consultation with the needs of the client.

While ESI believes that all protective details should have a foundation in Reactive Skills of combatives, evasive driving and defensive shooting, ESI's emphasis is on Operational Intelligence as the basis of comprehensive personal and corporate security. For the last decade, ESI's training philosophy is on Pre-Emptive Intervention skills that focus on Behavioral, Predictive and Proactive Intelligence.

ESI-Mexico's staff is made up of an elite international group of Colombian, Mexican and American instructors. ESI's basic 28-Day Protective Detail begins with training in the hard skills of combatives, tactical medical response, evasive driving and defensive shooting. The course will emphasize the soft skills of Pre-Emptive Intervention of Predictive, Proactive and Behavioral Intelligence. In addition, ESI-Mexico offers a 20-Day course in Operational Intelligence where the weight is on Human Intelligence Collection & Analysis, Eavesdropping Countermeasures, Technical Intelligence Collection & Countermeasures, Computer Intelligence and Security.

Rodrigo Muñoz ManautouRodrigo Muñoz is a Founder and Director of ESI-Mexico. Rodrigo has been associated with ESI since its incorporation in 1980, and completed both ESI's Executive Protection and Protective Intelligence and Investigation training programs during ESI's earliest years.  His association with ESI began as a devoted martial artists under Bob Duggan during the 1970's at the Aspen Academy of Martial arts where he was introduced to Hwa Rang Do and  became Mexico's first Black Belt in the art under Mr. Duggan's instruction.

Rodrigo was responsible for the establishment of the first ESI Executive Protection training program for the Governor's office in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, ESI's first police training programs in the state of Nuevo Leon, ESI's Anti-riot training for state prisons, and Protective Intelligence and Investigation for state agencies. Subsequently,  Sr. Muñoz became the Chief of Staff for Governor Cavazos, in charge of the governor's personal security, itinerary and political relations.  While Chief of Staff, he instituted an ESI program in Protective Intelligence until the Governor's term of office ended in the year 2000. Following the change in the federal government's ruling political party, Sr. Muñoz was recruited to join  Hacienda (Federal Treasury) Aduana Mexico (Customs) as the Director of Intelligence.  Prior to Rodrigo's recruitment, Customs Intelligence didn't exist. In order to build an intelligence operation to control the flow of illegal smuggled goods into the country, Sr. Muñoz was promoted to Administrator of Intelligence with more than 50 agents under his direction.

IN MEMORIAM: Eduardo Rodriguez Masso

The recent assassination of an esteemed ESI Instructor, Eduardo Rodriguez Masso in Tamaulipas, Mexico, shocked his family, friends and colleagues. He was gunned down in his office by a hit team dressed as police officers in December 2007. At this date, no suspects are apprehended nor is a precise motivation for the contract killing known.

Commander Masso was the chief negotiator of a special Federal unit that had the responsibility of negotiating the release or the rescue of kidnap victims. In ten years, Masso and his specialist unit negotiated the release of hundreds of kidnap victims and the capture of more than 700 gang members that specialized in kidnapping. Mexico suffers from a growing kidnap industry that has cast a dark shadow over the country and confidence in law enforcement agencies. Commander Masso demonstrated to the Mexican public that acceptance of criminal gangs is not inevitable nor are they untouchable.

I knew Eduardo for fifteen years, and in the Fall of 2007, he taught an Anti-Kidnapping course for ESI in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was a charismatic and effective teacher who spoke with profound passion and experience. Masso was also a close friend of Rodrigo Muños, Director of ESI Mexico and member of ESI's Board of Directors. We will miss our friend.
