CERTIFIED SECURITY SPECIALIST, CSS

ESI's premier program is the most comprehensive curriculum that ESI offers. The Security Specialist combines the core programs of PSD Protective Operations., Executive Protection and Protective Intelligence. It affords the student the flexibility to design a course of instruction that is organized specifically to the student's needs. Any course taken in another program is applicable to the CSS Credential that is full academic and financial credit is awarded for completion of courses in a parallel program.

A Security Specialist is a "generalist" in the sense that the student can craft knowledge and job related skills to a broad range of security assignments. In today's world, many of the traditional roles of private security which in the past were quite separate have now begun to meld together. A protection specialist may be expected to perform a number of assignments for a client: provide executive or family security, conduct investigations, collect competitor intelligence, or carry out intricate electronic countermeasures. The Security Specialist Program allows for the full spectrum of practical skills and training to prepare the graduate for multiple tasks.

SECURITY SPECIALIST PROGRAM

The Security Specialist Certificate Program consists of an option of two formats: A combination of 18 Distance Education courses and one 15-Day Resident Training or two 28-Day Residencies. Academic courses are selected from the more than 25 offered in ESI's Distance Education curriculum and the selection of one Resident Training component: 15-Day PSD Protective Operations, 15-day Executive Protection or the Protective Intelligence 18-day Resident Training.

The alternative format is to take the entire curriculum in a combination of two of three ful- time classroom 28-Day or 18-Day Residencies: Executive Protection, PSD Protective Operations and Protective Intelligence. It is feasible to accumulate Credit Hours by taking Modules as Stand-Alone courses, but adds up to the equivalent number of training hours for the Certificate.

Enrollment in the Security Specialist Distance Education format is begun with the selecting a list of 18 Distance Education courses and completing them prior to arrival for Resident Training. The Security Specialist Program has five required Distance Ed courses: Principles of Protection; Principles of Investigation; Criminal Intelligence Collection & Analysis; Stalking and Dangerous Human Behavior; and Interviews and Interrogation. The choice of which academic remaining thirteen electives and the Resident Training are left to the student; the electives should be selected to complement the student's principal interest.

DISTANCE ED COMPLETION TIME

A student may register in the program at any time and he or she will have eighteen months to complete the program, however, some students complete the work much earlier. The student should complete the work as rapidly as is consistent with their schedule and satisfactory scholarship. On average, each of the eighteen courses can be completed in four weeks. We recommend that you work at a steady pace to complete each course approximately within the time frame allowed.

STUDENTS WILL NOT REPEAT ANY COURSE MATERIAL OR PAY
DOUBLE FOR THE SAME CURRICULUM THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN
ANOTHER CORE PROGRAM.

All ESI programs and course studies are approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Division of Private Occupational Schools.

If the student should decide to attend two Resident Training programs, ESI will extend a 10% discount on the second Resident Training program, and the graduate receives three Certifications: Certified Protection Specialist, Certified PSD Protective Operations Specialist or Certified Protective Intelligence Specialist, and Certified Security Specialist.

CD ROM CONVERSION

Many of ESI's copyrighted text books and printed manuals exist in CD Acrobat format or DVD. The CD Rom format facilitates student mobility and shipping to ESI's growing international student body.
