ESI's five-day Tactical Shooting Course is designed with the objective of preparing Protective Details with the special skills and judgments demanded by profession. We believe that the combination of our traditional steel plate shooting and the shoot-house will elevate the realistic-stress induced training exercises that we have always advocated to a whole new level.

In the year 2000, we introduced soft-air handguns made in Japan. These are not the single-shot toys. These guns recoil, have reload magazines, fit standard Glock holsters, and fire a soft bb at about 300 feet per second.  We introduced the soft air pistols into the Protective Detail drills that will allow us to conduct multiple exercises in urban environments with complete safety.  ESI's Chief Firearms Instructor, Tony Pagni has revamped the ESI program to adapt to the new environment and technology.

DEFENSIVE SHOOTING TACTICS

Basic Combat Shooting for Bodyguard Professional.  The Basic Combat Shooting component of this course stresses range safety, safe gun handling and elementary shooting skills. All students are expected to pass a Level Three Shooting Test. The course emphasizes aiming, gripping, trigger squeeze, and sight picture on our static silhouette range. Once the basics are mastered and the patterns are within vital zones, the student moves on to the Steel Plate Reaction Target Range where the emphasis is on the draw from conceal carry, target acquisition and first shot hits.

Combat Handgun Tactics for Bodyguard Professional. Building upon skills developed at Level Three, Level Two moves on to single and multiple reaction targets on a Steel Plate Range. This starts with rapid conceal-carry draw, first round hits against multiple steel plates from point blank range to fifteen meters. Following instruction of close-in and distant rapid fire, reload and clearing of misfires, the student will progress as a Level I to shooting exercises.  In the shooting drills, the single shooter fire at multiple targets surrounded by innocents while the advanced protective detail team engage multiple targets on a Shoot-Don't Shoot Steel Silhouette Range. Live-Fire and Soft Air Pistol scenarios are integrated into the shooting program in order to develop realistic understanding of movement, use of cover, communication and protective team operations.
