Bob Duggan

President Board of Directors
Bob Duggan, President and Founder of ESI, is the lead instructor for Sacred Terror, Behavioral Intelligence, Human Behavior and Dangerousness, Unarmed Defensive Tactics, Weapon Disarms and Retention.
Bob Duggan entered the field of executive protection with a unique background. Besides nearly three decades as a martial artist, he was an active Marxist revolutionary in the turbulent decade of the 60's. He underwent a conversion to democratic ideals after the revelations of genocidal massacres under the Communist regime in Cambodia. For many years as a revolutionary, he was placed under intense surveillance by local and federal law enforcement agencies. During the 60's he was active in urban guerrilla movements in South America, he was deported by two Latin American countries, and in 1971 he was captured and tortured by the Mexican Federal Security Directorate, known as The Brigada Blanca, for his affiliation with student revolutionary groups. (In February of 2004, Federal Prosecutor of Mexico, Ignacio Carrillo, arrested Miguel Nazar Haro, retired General of the Brigada Blanca during the years of the "Dirty War" 1978 through 1982. Prosecutor Carrillo launched an investigation of the massacre at Tlatelolco in 1968 and the disappearance of more than 275 people tortured and killed over a period of fifteen years. He was accused of directing the military to murder activists who opposed the PRI dictatorship that included dropping kidnapped and tortured detainees out helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico.)
Bob Duggan's knowledge of contemporary terrorism is visceral and tempered with age. His first-hand experience and knowledge of the ideological and psychological drives of terrorist is sought out by many agencies who once sought his capture. Duggan has lectured for the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School, at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, that is an inter-agency school for officers specializing in counter terrorism. This school provides counter-terrorism instruction for all armed forces in the Department of Defense.
Duggan has taught similar courses on terrorism and defensive tactics to The Greater St. Louis Police Academy, Portland Police Department, Maine Criminal Justice Police Academy, and others. He is also a Certified Instructor for the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Beginning in 1968, Duggan studied Hapkido under Joo Sang Lee and in 1972 he trained with his brother, Joo Bang Lee, founder of Hwa Rang Do, a derivative martial art of Hapkido. He was the first Westerner to study this elite fighting art and wrote three volumes on Hwa Rang Do at the request of Joo Bang Lee. Over the thirty years of involvement with the development of the art, Mr. Duggan made numerous innovations to the system that bear his personal signature. He attempts to convey to ESI students, who attend Resident Training, the importance of applying a specific syllabus of techniques to a profession rather than an art form.

Administrative Staff
ESI was conceived by Bob Duggan in early 1980 when the first bodyguard training programs were developed as a practical extension of his martial arts training after a decade as a director of the Aspen Academy of Martial Arts and protection work for celebrities. In 1981, ESI was founded as a closely held Colorado Corporation and as a career school approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education under the Private Occupational Education Act.
ESI is a unique institution as one of the few private schools in the country that offers more than 2,000 hours of training in Executive Protection, Protective Intelligence and Investigations. In addition, ESI provides training programs for law enforcement agencies, property and perimeter security for estates and businesses, as well as custom designed security training for corporations.
In 1989, ESI received approval for its Investigation Program, which was further expanded in 1996 to become the highly regarded Protective Intelligence and Investigation Program. In 2005, due to the fact that so many ESI graduates were recruited to contract work in the Near East. ESI offered a 600 hour Special Operations Training Program, and in late 2006, ESI evolved a three month Residency Program that included all the theory and practical training components of in full time resident format in which students complete all of the training in classroom or practical field training.
