Mission Statement and Staff

ESI was conceived by Bob Duggan in early 1980 when the first bodyguard training programs were developed as a practical extension of his martial arts training after a decade as a director of the Aspen Academy of Martial Arts and protection work for celebrities. In 1981, ESI was founded as a closely held Colorado Corporation and as a career school approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education under the Private Occupational Education Act.
ESI conducts its Resident Training in Grand Junction, Colorado located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. To the East, are the mountain peaks that rise to 14,000 feet and the Grand Mesa. To the West are the high deserts and plateaus of Utah, Arizona and Nevada. ESI has built its training facility in the high desert at the base of Grand Mesa and the town of White Water.
The personal protection and investigation business represent one of the oldest professions in civilization. Even uncivilized societies required the services of highly dedicated men and women who would devote their lives to serve and protect others. In earlier times, these professions were accorded the highest rank and status... in Europe, they were called Knights, in Japan, Samurai. In modern times, the need for personal and corporate protection remains high and those who respond to the calling are but a select few. Those who are willing to accept the risks and the rewards of the protection and investigation profession require the same dedication and specialized training as the old profession, but there are few sources of the knowledge. With a view towards molding standards of excellence in the ancient way and in accordance to the demands of modern society, ESI developed training programs which would give a new definition to the protection and investigation field.
