MISSION STATEMENT

From the beginning, the founders were convinced that a private training academy in executive protection, investigation and intelligence operations had to establish a reputation based upon a high degree of professionalism in the field and highest caliber of training available in the private sector. ESI's staff are immediately recognizable authorities in their respective professions. It has been one of the hallmarks of ESI's national reputation that its staff are among the best in the country and its training standards comparable on an international scale.

ESI was conceived by Bob Duggan in early 1980 when the first bodyguard training programs were developed as a practical extension of his martial arts training after a decade as a director of the Aspen Academy of Martial Arts and protection work for celebrities. In 1981, ESI was founded as a closely held Colorado Corporation and as a career school approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education under the Private Occupational Education Act.

ESI is a unique institution as one of the few private schools in the country that offers more than 2,000 hours of training in Executive Protection, Protective Intelligence and Investigations. In addition, ESI provides training programs for law enforcement agencies, property and perimeter security for estates and businesses, as well as custom designed security training for corporations.

In 1989, ESI received approval for its Investigation Program, which was further expanded in 1996 to become the highly regarded Protective Intelligence and Investigation Program.  In 2005, due to the fact that so many ESI graduates were recruited to contract work in the Near East. ESI offered a 600 hour Special Operations Training Program, and in late 2006, ESI evolved a three month Residency Program that included all the theory and practical training components of in full time resident format in which students complete all of the training in classroom or practical field training.

By private arrangements, ESI provides training to corporations, police and military agencies anywhere in the world. ESI offers specialty courses for executives and programs for corporations that allow for custom designed security training programs. ESI also offers training programs in Mexico and is currently translating its entire curriculum into Spanish for all Latin American countries.

LOCATION

LocationESI conducts its Resident Training  in Grand Junction, Colorado located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. HISTORY

The year 2000 inaugurated ESI's third decade in the business of training protection specialists and investigators for public agencies, private industry, and individuals. After twenty-seven years of its existence, ESI has trained hundreds of protection specialists for careers in the personal protection profession, protective intelligence and investigation.

The New Professionalism

The New ProfessionalismThe personal protection and investigation business represent one of the oldest professions in civilization. Even uncivilized societies required the services of highly dedicated men and women who would devote their lives to serve and protect others. In earlier times, these professions were accorded the highest rank and status... in Europe, they were called Knights, in Japan, Samurai. In modern times, the need for personal and corporate protection remains high and those who respond to the calling are but a select few. Those who are willing to accept the risks and the rewards of the protection and investigation profession require the same dedication and specialized training as the old profession, but there are few sources of the knowledge. With a view towards molding standards of excellence in the ancient way and in accordance to the demands of modern society, ESI developed training programs which would give a new definition to the protection and investigation field.

ESI's training programs are now offered in two formats: One is a combination Distance Education/Resident Training that are designed so students do not have to quit their job in order to attain their education, or take any more than is deemed necessary to the furtherance of their career. The first format is designed as Distance Education and 15-Day Resident Training that allow students to acquire the academic components of the course material as an Independent Study program completed at home and at their own pace until they are ready to come to Colorado to complete the practical sections of the course. The second format is completed in residency in three modules of more or less one month each.

Resident Training sections are modeled after military language schools.  At ESI the instruction is based upon Total Immersion, High Intensity, Close Supervision, Induced Stress, Reality Simulation, Team and Individual Performance.
